Museum of the Living Worker: Michelle Johnsen

The Things We Carry

In August 2020, Modern Art was delighted to welcome photographer and all-around wonderful human, Michelle Johnsen, to the Museum of the Living Worker. Inspired by Tim O’Brien’s award-winning book "The Things They Carried", and the quote "Omnia mea mecum porto" (All that is mine I carry with me). Michelle invited the community to come inside (with a mask!), to empty out their bags, and to have them organized and photographed. Over 70 people participated, resulting in an amazing portfolio of mini-glimpses into the things we carry.

Michelle will be following up her residency with a show in the windows of Modern Art in October 2020.
